GOAL
Transform a dated 1960’s building (former headquarters of Howard Johnson) into a modern mix of corporate offices and floors of telephone and computer support for a large health care insurance provider.
The facility had a number of physically challenged staff and the Owner was committed to recruiting more physically challenged personnel so the building and servery needed to be 100% ADA compliant and accessible.
SOLUTION/STRATEGY
Originally we planned to rework and reposition the counters and kitchen from the old Howard Johnson facility. When code and infrastructure issues were realized we determined it was more cost effective to gut the facility and start from scratch.
The Owner brought in an industry leading accessibility consultant who worked with CFL and the architectural team in every phase to make sure each station and all components were 100% compliant.
RESULTS
The design and construction schedule of 9 months was achieved.
During post-commissioning verification we found that a number of items built in full compliance with ADA and ANSI standards were not accessible to some physically challenged individuals. We made adjustments to the design so that all points of service were fully accessible.
