Rhode Island School of Design (RISD)
GOAL
To successfully compete with off–campus options by renovating the main dining facility so that it would attract both non – residents and staff
CHALLENGES
- Focus group findings indicated the need for major renovation but conventional wisdom suggested it simply couldn’t be done in light of some daunting time and budget constraints
- Renovation had to occur while permitting continuous kitchen operation
SOLUTION/STRATEGY
- Implement a “Marketplace” concept to enhance the facility’s layout and patron flow
- Develop a low cost foodservice equipment package carefully integrated with the Architect’s vision for the space.
RESULTS
The renovated facility is now consistent with RISD’s world–renowned reputation for design. Dining services and the renovated servery have become a valuable sales tool in attracting potential students
